California - News
Proposition 8 proponents are trying to strip the 18,000 couples who married of their marriage licenses. They are like the Grinch attempting to pull every last shred of happiness and hope from same-sex couples. The Court cannot allow the bullies and bigotry to pollute our Constitution that has heretofore stood for equality and justice for all. California Attorney General Jerry Brown told the California Supreme Court that his usual obligation to defend state laws must give way to his duty to uphold fundamental rights in the state Constitution. This historic act, is only the second time a head of the Calfornia Department of Justice has refused to defend a newly enacted ballot measure since 1964, when an overwhelming 65 percent majority of the state's voters approved Proposition 14, a constitutional amendment that overturned a fair-housing law and allowed racial discrimination in property sales and rentals. The California Supreme Court overturned Prop. 14 in 1966. .: (more) :.

Pennsylvania - Action Alert
The Allegheny County Council in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is considering legislation to ban discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations (like going to a restaurant, riding a bus, paying for a movie), and real estate transactions. Originally, 13 of the 16 councilors signed on as co-sponsors for the bill, but 4 have apparently pulled their support due to attacks from groups using the same appeals to ignorance and fear that we've seen across the country. The truth is that this bill will provide basic protections to all citizens of Allegheny County, ensuring that everyone wakes up each day knowing they can't be fired or lose their housing just for being who they are.
