Welcome to Marriage Equality in the Courts
(Updated 30 October 2013)
The United States Supreme Court heard two landmark cases addressing the freedom to marry and marriage equality in March 2013. On 26 June 2013 the Court handed down its historic rulings in United States v.Windsor (DOMA) Hollingsworth v. Perry (California's Proposition 8). Although these decisions were not the broad, sweeping wins that we may have ideally hoped for, they were positive decisions that we expected and they marked a huge stride forward in the American marriage equality movement.
